If you’re worried about the mass influx of poorly made and dangerous health risks of chinese products, all you have to do is one thing.. check the barcode. From mass-recalled children’s toys made with lead to tools covered in asbestos, these are just a couple of reasons why you should avoid buying Chinese products. Lax safety standards aren’t the only reason people are running away from these products, it’s also about supporting what your own country produces. Think about it, more purchased American made products, more jobs.. pretty simple. Go to your local store and farmers market, you’ll get better products, sometimes at a better price. But just remember, you get what you pay for.
With all the food and pet products now coming from China , it is best to make sure you read the label at the grocery store and especially at Walmart when buying food products.
Many products no longer show where they were made, they only give where the distributor is located.
It is important to read the bar code to track its origin.
How to read Bar Codes
The whole world is concerned about China-made “goods”.
Can you differentiate which one is made in Taiwan or China ?
If the first 3 digits of the barcode are 690 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA.
471 is Made in Taiwan .
This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the
public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves.
Today, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products “MADE IN CHINA “, so they refrain from showing which country it is made from whenever possible.
However, you may now refer to the barcode – remember if the first 3 digits are:
690-692 … then it is MADE IN CHINA
00 – 09 … USA & CANADA
30 – 37 FRANCE
40 – 44 GERMANY
471 …. Taiwan
49 … JAPAN
50 … UK
Pass this on to everybody you know.

Excellent information, thanks! Love the anatomy of a bar code image, just what I was searching for – found. May I use this image on my ‘made in USA’ web page?
Also I wonder whether you know this…when shopping online without easy access to bar codes, then how to determine origin of manufacturer? Companies are supposed to disclose this info yet many do not.
For example, on amazon.com we do not see bar codes and I’ve often wondered if there’s a way to look up this info using their ASIN numbers.
